About Louisville
Louisville is an historic city best known for "the most exciting two minutes in sports." Each year, the eyes of the nation turn to Louisville on the first Saturday of May for the running of the Kentucky Derby. As great as this race is, however, Louisville has much more to offer.
Located on the banks of the Ohio River, Louisville is America's 16th largest city. Don't let that fool you, though. There's still plenty of small town charm to make this a great place to live. In fact, many people describe Louisville as a big city with a small town feel.
Parks
One of Louisville's best features is its park system. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Louisville's park system is one of the best in the country, and features 123 parks totaling 14,000 acres. The three "flagship parks," Cherokee Park, Iroquois Park, and Shawnee Park combine for nearly 1,500 acres of majestic scenery.
Museums
Louisville is home to many great museums including the J.B. Speed Art Museum, Muhammad Ali Center, Louisville Slugger Museum, Frazier Historic Arms Museum, and the Kentucky Derby Museum among others.
Sports
If you like sports, you're going to love Louisville. In addition to the horse racing at Churchill Downs, Louisville is home to the Triple-A Cincinnati Reds farm team, the Louisville River Bats. Of course there is also University of Louisville Cardinal Football, Basketball, and Baseball.
Louisville also features a world-class skate park, some fantastic golf courses (both public and private) and a number of biking lanes throughout the city.If you are a golf fan, Louisville recently hosted the PGA championships and will soon host the Ryder Cup.
Entertainment
Louisville has a legendary nightlife with plenty of clubs, bars and other after-hours establishments. However, we are also quite cultured. Louisville is home to the very respected Actor's Theater, the Louisville Orchestra, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, The Palace and much, much more.
Looavul, Luhvul, Loueville, Looaville, Looeyville... it's LOUISVILLE. No matter how you say it, it's a great place to live.
