The Legacy of York

WHEN: TUESDAY, JUNE 16 | 6:00pm

York was a key member of the Lewis and Clark expedition and the enslaved Black servant to William Clark. A good portion of his life was spent at the childhood home of Clark, now known as George Rogers Clark Park. We will gather at the Lodge of the park to pay tribute to this American explorer. This free program will feature tours, talks, singing, and poetry readings with special guests; sculptor Ed Hamilton, poet Frank X Walker, Louisville Juneteenth Jubilee Commission member Dr. John Chenault, the Filson’s Jim Holmberg, Sankofa singers, and more.

Welcome to Season 3, the summer’s annual outdoor, internationally-inspired food & wine garden social, featuring live music, art, and Afro-fusion cuisine paired with wines from around the world. Guests will indulge their senses through sound, taste, and atmosphere, while exploring afro-diaspora culture. The DJ talent is teaming up with the renowned Louisville Academy of Music for a stunning live musical Afrobeats and Amapiano tribute performance, and you will enjoy live painting, lawn games, and interactive areas for you to pose and create memorable experiences.

Abstract Expressionists: The Women

When: MAY 16 – AUGUST 30

Kentucky’s first exhibition devoted to Abstract Expressionism. While we might be familiar with the story of artworks by Jackson Pollock or Willem de Kooning, this groundbreaking presentation celebrates the bold, innovative contributions of WOMEN who led the movement that transformed American art in the mid-20th century. Visitors will encounter over 30 major artists, experiencing their work as it was meant to be seen—up close, in person, and at full scale.
